Revenue Division

Introduction - The
Revenue Division is responsible for all policies and
matters pertaining to revenue through taxation and customs duties; relationships with
other countries through bilateral agreements
as well as other special duties. The Division is headed by
the Director of Special Duties. For taxation matters, the Permanent Secretary of the
Ministry of Finance is the Collector of Income Tax and the Collector of Stamp. However, for
day to day operations, the collection of tax and stamp is handled by the Senior
Taxation Officer. The Taxation Unit is the largest component of the Revenue
Division.
Mission - To
administer the taxation system efficiently and equitably and to uphold the good name of
the country in the international financial arena.
Functions and Responsibilities
- To formulate and plan policies relating to revenue
- To administer the Income Tax Act, the Income Tax (Petroleum) Act, the Stamp
Act and
to collect taxation revenues
- To coordinate the Custom Act and Custom matters
- To coordinate and conduct negotiations leading to the signing of Avoidance
of Double Taxation Agreements and Bilateral Investment Treaties
with other countries
- To supervise Authorised Auditors under the Companies Act and to
regulate auditors and accountant workpasses and other duties as
required from time to time.
